Spring has sprung and the market is due to thaw with the warmer weather. Heading into April showers, with our unpredictable Mother Nature at the wheel, can leave everyone feeling like it may be too early to start settling into the spring mindset. But there are still some easy checks you can mark on your list to help your curb appeal and your first impression with potential buyers.

Change the batteries in smoke detectors – Safety first, always!

Remove your leaves – Don’t worry about skipping autumn chores when all the leaves fell, now is as good a time as ever. Cleaning up leaves (and pet droppings) can go a long way with potential buyers. It may seem like a tough time of year to make everything look fresh as the world starts shaking the cold, but looking “clean” can work wonders.

Clean out gardens and planters – It’s too early to really plant anything, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a head start with removing rotted and dead plants from their beds to make room for the new plants.

Sweep off walkways and the driveway – Milder days are a perfect time to check your concrete and asphalt. Salt and grit can do a number on your walkways and driveway. Giving these areas a good sweep and rinse can clean any mess the colder months left behind.

Check your accessories – Wipe down your outdoor furniture and garden features around the yard.

Make appointments in advance - Planning to get your carpets professionally cleaned, hardwood floors refinished, or house sprayed for bugs? Be sure to schedule your appointments ahead of time so you get ahead of the busy season for these companies.

Replace your linens - After months of dark and dreary whether, brighten up your home with fresh linens. Replace heavy curtains, blankets, and comforters with a lightweight alternative and your home will feel cleaner immediately.

Open and Wash your windows – Of course opening your windows is suggested if the weather outside is decent. Bringing fresh air into the home can clear the stuffy winter season feel. You and your family have been cooped up all winter, things can get dusty, especially if you have pets. Windows can take on the worst of the grime. Cleaning all your windows can bring on a brighter, fresh feel to your home – don’t forget your garage door windows too!

Replace welcome mat – You want potential buyers to picture their life in your home, having a new door mat that hasn’t been used can help create that picture.

Whether you plan to sell or simply want to get a head start on enjoying a clean home, springtime is the perfect season to complete your to-do list.
